The demo for YOU DON'T LEAVE HERE 'TIL YOU LOSE was arranged and performed by Dave Smith, Nashville Song Lab. Dave was referred to me by Pete and Pat Luboff, who also critiqued my music and lyric prior to the demo. Pete and Pat

About the artist

I've been writing songs for over 25-years and have had several one-song contracts, but no actual industry cuts to date.

A selection of my demos, arranged and co-written with Greg Douglass of "Jungle Love" fame, can also be found on Yahoo.com by entering Roger Blakley, indie artist.

This particular track is based on a true story that happened to me when I was travelling on business. I was an above-average pool shooter and thought it would be fun to check-out this dive bar one evening to kill some time. It wasn't long before I picked-up a cue stick and faced-off with one of the local cowboys, which is the basis for the song.

Lyrics

YOU DON’T LEAVE HERE ‘TIL YOU LOSE

I was shooting eight ball against this cowboy
In Yuma, Arizona
We’re were playing for five spots
Tall shots of Mexican booze
As I get ready to put the eight ball
In the corner pocket
He taps me with his cue stick warning
YOU DON’T LEAVE HERE ‘TIL YOU LOSE

I can see the fire raging in his dark eyes
When I look up from the table
Blue veins on his red neck crackled
Like a short burning fuse
So I turn to his buddy
Standing tall on a palomino barstool
He just shakes his head and says it’s true
YOU DON’T LEAVE HERE ‘TIL YOU LOSE

Your winning streak is up to five
Never take a cowboy for a ride
That man will tan your hustling hide
Might be wise to gut your pride

I line up the eight ball, back away
Chalk-up my cue tip
Take a walk around the table
Time had come to choose
The tattooed gal tending bar waves me off
Tells me it’s over
Barking one way or the other brother
YOU DON’T LEAVE HERE ‘TIL YOU LOSE

She brought my hot streak to an end
I scratched the shot and made amends
Bought the house a couple rounds
Hit the door drove out of town singing

YOU DON’T LEAVE HERE ‘TIL YOU LOSE (X2)
One way or the other brother
YOU DON’T LEAVE HERE ‘TIL YOU LOSE
